Timberwolves looking to extend Naz Reid’s contract

Having already established the essential pillars of what their future will be in the short and medium term, the Timberwolves want to continue betting on their core performance. Although he may go under the radar, one of the most valuable pieces on the roster is Naz Reid. Last year the center was one of the best reserve interiors in the league, and for this reason Minnesota considers the extension of his contract a priority.

Entering his fourth year in the NBA and his final guaranteed season, Reid would now become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. However, player and franchise are already in talks to extend his commitment after the Timberwolves exercised his team option last June. Reid initially came to the Timberwolves on a dual deal, but soon turned it into a standard signing with a team option in 2022 and the possibility of an extension during the final year.

This year the center will receive the remaining 1.9 million of the 6 he signed for four seasons in 2019. The figures of his possible agreement have not yet been discussed, but it will probably range in amounts close to an average exception. In addition to Reid, Minnesota is also already working on the renewal of Jylen Nowell. Although the player is expected to opt to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the current campaign.
