Wednesday night was a memorable one for the New York Yankees as they defeated the Oakland Athletics by a final score of 11-0.

The story of the game, however, was right-hander Domingo Germán, who pitched the first perfect game in Major League Baseball since Félix Hernández for the Seattle Mariners in 2012.

It had been 11 years since the most recent perfect game, but German and the Yankees bucked that trend on Wednesday.

In fact, the Yankees made a bit of history with their victory.

11-0 is the largest margin in baseball history for a perfect game.

On Twitter, “Talkin’ Baseball” pointed out this interesting fact.

Perfect games are incredibly rare.

Also, it’s incredibly rare for a perfect game to be thrown when the score is the same as it was last night.

But the Yankees and German made an interesting story Wednesday with the perfect last.

German got 11 runs in support and managed to completely shut out the woeful A’s as the Yankees evened their three-game series, creating a chance to win the series on Thursday.

The right-hander even struck out nine batters in his bid for perfection.

The German was the story of the game, but the wide margin in the score also made for quite an interesting story, as no perfect game had ever seen such a wide margin in the score.

New York made sure to turn that around Wednesday in Oakland, leading it to its 44th win of the season as they stayed 9.5 games out of first place.
