The New York Yankees have played their home games in Yankee Stadium since 2009.
Before that, however, they played for decades…in Yankee Stadium.
Yes, the original one was built between 1922 and 1923.
100 years ago, on this day, the stadium opened in the Bronx.

Known as The House That Ruth Built, the original Yankee Stadium served as the Yanks’ home park from 1923 until 2008, with a two-year hiatus for renovations in 1974 and 1975.
Having hosted 6,581 Yankees regular-season home games during its 85-year history, it was a truly iconic stadium.
The old Yankee Stadium witnessed numerous World Series, no-hitters, perfect games, and other baseball milestones and achievements.
It also hosted boxing combats, NFL games, college football games, concerts, and prominent religious activities.
After the Yankees moved to the new park, the old Yankee Stadium was demolished.
Demolition began in March 2009 and ended in May 2010.
To say it was the most prominent and historically relevant stadium in MLB would be an understatement.
Yankee Stadium witnessed more World Series championships and celebrations than most franchises have in their history.
It was a New York and American icon for decades, and people built incredible and unforgettable memories there.
It’s hard to believe that 100 years have passed since its opening.
The Yankees went on to win the Fall Classic in their first season at the new stadium, in 2009.
They haven’t been able to win it all since.
