Washington has taken over the services of Xavier Cooks. The still Sydney Kings player will join the Wizards once the NBL (Australian League) playoffs are over, in which he has been named MVP of the 2022-23 season.
According to his agent (Daniel Moldovan de Octagon Sports) to ESPN, The 27-year-old player’s contract extends to the 2023-24 campaign, so he will be linked to the capital organization at least until then.
Cooks is part of the project of a team that, with former Memphis Grizzlies executive Chris Pongrass and former NBA players Andrew Bogut and Luc Longley, has wanted to become a springboard for its players to end up reaching the NBA. They are doing well, as Cooks is the fifth player in five years to make the jump from this team to American competition.
Regarding the player that the Wizards take, it is a power forward who is considered a versatile defender with good passing ability. Although he went undrafted, he has made huge strides in the NBL to be named Finals MVP in the 2021-21 season and league MVP in 2022-23. As for his new team, the Wizards, they are fighting to be a team of play-in and have the possibility of reaching the playoffs.
