Dennis Allen’s tenure in charge of the New Orleans Saints has been far from impressive thus far.
The post-Drew Brees era has been tough to watch in the Big Easy, so they’re leaving no stone unturned to try and get him more help to straighten the ship.
With that in mind, Allen is bringing in a familiar face to join his staff, closing in on a deal to hire Clancey Barone to become the Saints’ new Tight Ends coach, as reported by New Orleans Football’s Nick Underhill.

Allen and Barone already worked together in the Atlanta Falcons in 2004 and 2005 and the Denver Broncos in 2011.
Also, Barone coached for the Texas A&M Aggies while Allen was playing for the program, so they have strong ties there.
Barone is fresh off a brief tenure as the Chicago Bears’ TE coach in 2021 and has 18 years of NFL experience as an OL and TE coach with several franchises.
This new coach will join Joe Woods, Todd Grantham, and Marcus Robertson as the new hires for the Saints, a team that lost several senior assistants like Kris Richard, Zach Strief, Ryan Nielsen, and Cory Robinson.
Furthermore, the Saints are also reportedly working on a deal to trade for Las Vegas Raiders’ Derk Carr to be their next franchise QB, with Jameis Winston serving as his backup.
Saints and Raiders have already reportedly agreed on the terms of the deal, so it’ll be all up to Carr to waive his no-trade clause to land in the Big Easy.
