On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox were up 3-1 in the score against the Tampa Bay Rays after the top of the fifth inning.
It looked like they could potentially defeat the Rays for the first time this year and put an end to that impressive streak.
Well, it didn’t quite go that way because the Rays scored seven (!) runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Just like that, the streak was back on, and in the end, it reached 13 straight victories.
Tampa is already making history, and there is more to be done.
The Tampa Bay #rays do it again! No. 13. The only team in baseball history with a longer winning streak at the start of the season are those 1884 St. Louis Maroons. They have bludgeoned the opposition, 100-30, trailing at the end of only 6 of 117 innings. Next stop: Toronto,” MLB insider Bob Nightengale tweeted.

To have a +71 run differential when just 13 games have been played is unbelievable.
That’s how dominant the Rays have looked.
Sure, they faced a soft schedule to this point, but they haven’t missed.
Not one game: they always show up.
They started off with the Washington Nationals, the Detroit Tigers, and the Oakland Athletics.
Then, they faced a more decent team like Boston.
Now, the difficulty level is about to increase, as the Blue Jays are legitimate contenders.
The only thing separating the Rays with the absolute record are eight wins.
The 1884 St. Louis Maroons opened the year with a 20-0 record.
Eight more wins and the Rays would have left behind them.
It’s much easier said than done, though.
Do they have what it takes to make history?
