The Raptors do not consider rebuilding

The arrival of Darko Rajakovic as the new coach of the Raptors suggests that a deep reconstruction is approaching in the franchise led by Masai Ujiri, but sources close to the journalist Marc Stein assure the opposite, that they will try to strengthen the team with the aim of returning to the playoffs next season.

It should be remembered that Rajakovic will make his debut as head coach in the competition after accompanying Taylor Jenkins for the last three seasons on the bench for the Memphis Grizzlies.

On the other hand, there are the contracts of Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr., both with a ‘player option’ valued at $22.82 million and $18.56 million respectively. VanVleet will be looking for a new long-term contract, and his future is far from the Raptors. For his part, whether or not he accepts the aforementioned Trent Jr.’s option, they also place him out next year.

Since the signing of Masai Ujiri as chief of operations for the Raptors, they have accumulated a positive record of 490-310, winning the NBA ring for the first time in their history in 2019, beating the Golden State Warriors 4-2 in the Finals.
