The Texas Rangers finished the 2022 season with a 68-94 record.

That was way worse than they had envisioned when they signed Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Kole Calhoun, Jon Gray, and Martin Perez (among others) before the season.

The mediocre win-loss record eventually resulted in the organization moving on from longtime executive Jon Daniels and manager Chris Woodward.

Ownership has made it clear that it wants to win, and it wants to do it now.

They are moving on with Chris Young as the general manager and they hired three-time World Series winner Bruce Bochy as the skipper.

The team is bringing in more experienced people to help make sound decisions and to get the best out of the roster, more specifically pitchers.

The Rangers Are Going For It With Two Exceptional Hires

“Rangers announce Mike Maddux will be their new pitching coach and Dayton Moore will be senior advisor of baseball operations. Texas making some brand-name hires this off-season,” MLB insider Chelsea Janes tweeted.

Moore was in charge of making baseball decisions for the Kansas City Royals from 2006 to 2022, with consecutive World Series appearances in 2014 and 2015.

Maddux has extensive experience as a major league pitching coach: he has been with the Milwaukee Brewers (2003–2008), the Rangers (2009–2015), the Washington Nationals (2016–2017), and the St. Louis Cardinals (2018– 2022).

In his first season with the Rangers in 2009, the club’s ERA dropped nearly one full run.

He was part of the team that made consecutive World Series in 2010 and 2011, losing both.

Maddux and Moore’s hires evidently signal that the Rangers are A) trying to build a winning culture; and B) will have ample resources to bring in some game-changing talent via free agency.
