The New York Mets had lost seven games in a row heading into the second game of their three-game weekend set against the NL Central-leading Pittsburgh Pirates.

However, they had Kodai Senga on the mound and were looking to right the ship.

Sure enough, they were able to do just that.

The right-hander gave the Mets seven innings and allowed just one unearned run on two hits, walking four batters and striking out six.

The Mets won by a final of 5-1 to snap their seven-game skid.

On Twitter, SNY pointed out an interesting fact, which shows how dominant the Mets have been when they receive an outing of six innings or more from their starter.

New York is now 17-1 this season in games in which their starting pitcher has gone at least six innings.

Senga has been their most consistent starting pitcher this season.

He is 6-3 with an ERA of 3.34 in his 12 starts.

Senga has also fanned 79 batters in 64.2 innings of work.

But the Mets have clearly benefited greatly from their starters giving them length in games.

Both Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander have not performed up for pair this season.

New York is also just 31-34 on the season.

However, the length of their starters has given them somewhat of a boost, and it’s something they’ll need to continue in order to climb out of their 9.5 game hole in the NL East.

Senga gave them a quality start on Saturday and helped the Mets put an end to their losing skid, while also adding to their impressive record in games in which a starter has given them at least six innings.
