The New York Mets aren’t having the season many of their fans were hoping for.
After winning 101 games last season, the Mets were expected to be competitive again.
Many thought that, at worst, they would be a wild card team in the National League with the addition of Justin Verlander to their starting rotation.
But that has been anything but the case.
The Mets are playing like one of the worst teams in baseball in June.
As Codify noted, they are 5-15 in the last 20 games.
National League East teams, last 20 games:
Atlanta Braves ————> 17-3
Philadelphia Phillies ——> 15-5
Miami Marlins ————> 14-6
New York Mets ———–> 5-15
Washington Nationals —-> 5-15— Encode (@CodifyBaseball) June 26, 2023
The Mets are winning at the same rate as the terrible Washington Nationals during June.
It’s hard not to look at that team and see that they need to make some changes.
Either to his squad or coaching staff, but something has to happen.
They’re not getting the pitching they were hoping for this season.
One of the craziest stats of the season for the Mets is their record when they score 6+ runs.
According to PointsBet, the Mets are 13-12 this season in games where they score 6+ runs.
Last season the Mets went 55-4 by scoring that much.
The Mets have 12 losses while scoring 6+ runs this year.

Their bullpen has struggled to hold the lead as the loss of closer Edwin Diaz remains significant.
The Mets have a 4.22 bullpen ERA on the year, which is ninth worst in baseball.
Other than making a trade, there doesn’t seem to be a clear way to improve his bullpen.
It will be interesting to see what the Mets choose to do at the trade deadline.
