The Mavericks, attentive to a possible ‘buyout’ of Justin Holiday

The Mavericks continue to look for several candidates to be released. After showing their interest in Terrecen Ross, who ended up finally heading to Phoenix, the Texans have now turned their attention to Justin Holiday, who arrived in Houston in the last days of the transfer market but could be cut by the Rockets. According to the journalist Marc Stein, in Dallas they will be attentive to this possibility, since they want to incorporate the escort to the squad if the opportunity arises.

Holiday is one of those backpackers in the NBA accustomed to not finding stability in any franchise, since the Rockets are the ninth team to land in their 10 seasons in the league and, from what has been seen, they may not last many days in their ranks. This year he began the term in Atlanta, where he arrived as part of the trade that brought Kevin Huerter to Sacramento, and although he started as part of the second unit, he gradually lost weight in McMillan’s rotation until he practically did not count at all. In fact, he has played only one game since January 3 and it was in a match that his team won by 32, a clear sign that they had stopped counting on him.

Justin was more of a protagonist during the 21-22 season, in which, as a starter in most of his games with both the Kings and the Pacers, he averaged 10.1 points and was relatively solvent on defense, showing good manners that has not been able to explode this year. It’s unclear what Houston intends to do with him, but given that his contract is up in June and he will become a free agent, his release seems like a real possibility that the Mavericks don’t seem to want to pass up.
