The Marlins Are Off To Their Best Start In 26 Years

The Miami Marlins, despite having two World Series championships in 30 years of existence, haven’t exactly been the most consistent franchise in baseball.

Their mediocre .461 winning percentage is the perfect proof of this.

They spend years rebuilding and their containment windows are often short.

However, it’s fair to say that things are trending in the right direction at the moment.

After another dazzling performance by pitching prospect Eury Perez on Wednesday night, the Marlins are 38-31, winners of seven of their last ten games.

Yes, they have overachieved some considering their -30 run differential, but that’s what happens when a team has a solid pitching staff.

In fact, not only are the Marlins hot at the moment: they are enjoying a historically great start.

It’s the best start to a season since 1997, or 26 years ago.

Do you remember what happened that year?

They won the World Series.

The odds of that happening this year are probably not as good, but they aren’t zero.

The Marlins’ offense is still a work in progress as they try to acquire and develop impact hitters, but there is no denying their pitching is competitive.

They have reigning NL Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara and Perez headlining a solid rotation that also has Jesus Luzardo, Braxton Garrett, and Edward Cabrera.

Still, they are not a zero on offense: they do have Jorge Soler, who has hit 20 home runs, Jazz Chisholm Jr., the emerging Jesus Sanchez, Bryan De La Cruz, and hitting machine Luis Arraez.

What they do at the deadline will likely shape the rest of their season.
