The Philadelphia Eagles’ secondary will be a point of interest in NFL circles for the next couple of days.

The team managed to re-sign CB James Bradberry, but they’re expected to release Darius Slay.

With that in mind, John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia broke the news that the Eagles are going the extra mile to try and re-sign CJ Gardner-Johnson.

The veteran safety seemingly bid farewell to the season with an emotional post just a few days ago, with several teammates reaching out to show their support and love.

He should be one of the most sought-after free agents in the league after logging 67 tackles and six picks in just 12 games last season.

Gardner-Johnson’s versatility and ability to play in multiple areas of the field makes him one of the most unique players entering free agency this season and one that the reigning NFC Champions cannot afford to lose.

On top of that, he’s still got the best football of his career ahead of him, so he’s likely to demand a steep salary to sign with whichever team he chooses, Philadelphia included.

The Eagles aren’t exactly oozing with cap space, but they know they cannot afford to lose another key member of their league-best defense.

Gardner-Johnson has all the leverage in his contract negotiations, especially considering how many teams are likely to line up in front of his door with plenty of guaranteed money.

So, we’ll have to see how this situation unfolds in the City of Brotherly Love.
