The Washington Commanders had a shot to make the NFL playoffs this season, but they fell short with an 8-8-1 record.
They have seldom made the playoffs over the past 30 years, and perhaps the first step towards getting back to respectability is to improve their offense, which finished 20th in total yards and 24th in points scored.
Washington is looking for a new offensive coordinator, and they will reportedly interview Greg Roman and Eric Bieniemy this week.

Bieniemy is fresh off winning the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, and he presided over an offense that was tops in points, total yards, passing touchdowns and first downs.
Roman, meanwhile, has been the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator for the last four seasons, and they have ranked near the top of the NFL in both rushing yards and attempts during his time there.
He previously spent two seasons as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator, but most notably, he served in that capacity for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014.
During that time, the 49ers appeared in three straight NFC Championship Games, as well as Super Bowl XLVII, which they narrowly lost to the Ravens.
The Commanders ranked fourth in rushing attempts this season but just 29th in rushing touchdowns and 28th in yards per rush attempt, so perhaps Roman would be a good fit for them.
If they hire Bieniemy, could that possibly indicate a shift to a more pass-oriented offense?
The one Pro Bowler they have among their skill players is wide receiver Terry McLaurin, one of the more underrated wideouts in the NFL who put up 1,191 yards and five touchdowns this season.
