When the St. Louis Cardinals began the 2023 season with a 10-24 record, their offense dragged them out of their hole and got them back into postseason contention.
However, while they haven’t lost too much ground in the standings, their offense has caused them to slip back to the bottom of the National League.
Their lineup features reigning MVP Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, Willson Contreras, Nolan Gorman, Tommy Edman, and Brendan Donovan.
However, the bats have gone quiet, and the team has sputtered back to eight games below the .500 mark.
On Twitter, Cardinals insider Brandon Kiley posted some recent numbers which show how poorly the offense has performed.
The #STLCards have scored 13 runs in their past six games. Those runs have come via:
6 HR only
2 RBI Doubles
2 Sack Fly
Infield single RBI
wild pitch
Passed ball (Manfred Man)Cards are 3-for-40 w/ RISP in the past six games. It’s been a rough week.

After seemingly lifting the team out of their slump, the offense is now unrecognizable.
In their past six games, the Cards have scored just 13 runs.
In that stretch, they are also hitting .176 as a team with Edman, Contreras, and Paul DeJong going a combined 3-for-51 with just one run scored and no RBI.
Their runs over their last six games have come via six solo home runs, two RBI doubles, two sacrifice flies, and infield single, a wild pitch, and a passed ball.
The run that scored on the passed ball was the free extra-inning runner.
With runners in scoring position, they are 3-for-40 in their last six games.
Needless to say, things have spiraled yet again.
What will fix the offense is unknown, but it certainly hasn’t been a pleasant stretch for the 11-time World Series champions.
St. Louis is 24-32 on the season.
