On paper, the Buffalo Bills had the strongest, most stacked team in the AFC, but the paper doesn’t win football games.
The Bills endured some key injuries on the defensive side of the field last season, which might have taken a toll on their chances of going the distance.
So, now that their season has ended abruptly again, Head Coach Sean McDermott is leaving no stone unturned in an attempt to get back stronger next year.
That’s why they struck gold by hiring Al Holcomb as one of their new top defensive assistants, as he’s one of the best defensive minds in the game still up for hire right now.
Holcomb served as the Carolina Panthers’ interim Defensive Coordinator, helping Steve Wilks orchestrate a major turnaround.
Led by their defense, the Panthers had a shot at winning the NFC South Division with two weeks left in the season, all after a disastrous start to the year under HC Matt Rhule.
Moreover, Holcomb and McDermott go way back, as they also worked together during their days in Carolina.
The #Bills are hiring Al Holcomb as a senior defensive assistant, source says. Holcomb, who was the #panthers‘ interim defensive coordinator and assistant head coach under Steve Wilks, reunites with Sean McDermott, who he worked alongside in Carolina.

The Bills will need all hands on deck if they want to make a strong comeback next season.
The Miami Dolphins are expected to be better with Tua Tagovailoa back to full strength, and the New York Jets will most likely be a playoff team if they solve their issues at quarterback.
Also, they’ll need to get through Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes if they want to make the Super Bowl, so props to them on this great hire.
