The Oakland Athletics are the worst team in baseball.

However, the gap with the second-worst team, the Kansas City Royals, is not so big anymore.

Yes, the A’s are 17-50 for the 2023 campaign as a whole, but the Royals are 18-47, not too far ahead of Oakland.

The A’s have gotten closer thanks to a recent (and surprising winning streak).

The A’s have earned victories in each of their last five games.

That has to be one of the most shocking developments of the 2023 season.

The streak started last week, on Tuesday when they won the second game of their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

They took the third on Wednesday and won the series against the NL Central leaders.

Then, on the weekend, the A’s doubled up and swept the Milwaukee Brewers, who occupy second place in the NL Central division with a 34-32 record.

That’s not all: baseball is so unpredictable that all those five games came on the road.

The A’s own, by far, the worst pitching staff in MLB and managed to hold the Brewers to nine runs total, an average of three per game) while scoring 15.

These are difficult times for A’s fans, but this ongoing stretch of good baseball has everyone in Oakland feeling good ahead of Tuesday’s “reverse boycott,” an activity in which they are expected to fill the Oakland Coliseum to show ownership that fan support is not the problem.

Things could get interesting ahead of a potential relocation before the end of the decade.
