The return of Steven Adams to the competitive discipline of his team is far from imminent. The Memphis Grizzlies have announced that the player has received a stem cell injection as part of his treatment after spraining the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in late January.
Consequently, the pivot will be out for at least another four weeks. A piece of news as dramatic as it is surprising, since the Grizzlies’ own coach, Taylor Jenkins, had revealed this week that the player was already doing five-on-five exercises as the last phase of his rehabilitation process. Thus, it is understood that the center has had to suffer a relapse in recent days.
If this update is confirmed, it is almost certain that Adams will not play any more regular season games, since the Grizzlies will play their last game on April 8. In addition, it is not guaranteed that he can start the first round of the playoffs either, since he will be re-evaluated after exceeding this established four-week period.
The Adams news delves into the series of problems that have built up in Memphis in the past week. Recall that Ja Morant remains away from the team for an indefinite period after his incident in a Denver nightclub, while Brandon Clarke has said goodbye to the course due to a torn Achilles tendon.
Consequently, the Grizzlies have fallen to third place in the Western Conference after losing the last three games and their hopeful season is in danger of unraveling sooner than expected.
