The latest estimates from the specialized economic media have estimated the average value of franchises at 2,860 million dollars. Although the price of Warriors, Knicks, Lakers and other big markets inflate the figure, this has caused some owners to consider selling for the sake of profit in sight, according to Brian Windhorst on his podcast. The current process of selling the Phoenix Suns could bring Robert Sarver up to 3,000 million after having acquired the franchise for 400 in 2003. According to data from Forbes, up to seven teams have seen their value increase by 20% in the last year. Twelve of them are above average value.
NBA owners aren’t just looking at their own league, they’re also eyeing sales like the $4.3 billion NFL Broncos. To this list could soon be added the Washington Commanders with an estimated price between five and six billion, Liverpool FC (English football) for four thousand or Red Sox (MLB) for five. The Timberwolves have been the last franchise to change hands, although the transfer will not be complete until 2024. Among the franchises likely to be sold are Jody Allen’s Portland Trail Blazers. Rumors have also appeared recently that toy with the idea of seeing the Lakers in hands that did not belong to the Buss family.
