After losing Tom Brady to retirement, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made an attempt at a stopgap solution at quarterback by signing Baker Mayfield to a one-year contract.
Although Mayfield has ample talent, he hasn’t panned out in five NFL seasons, and he has now had multiple opportunities to put it all together and prove he is truly a franchise signal-caller.
Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe said on Undisputed that he is surprised Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay’s two main weapons at wide receiver, haven’t asked to be traded now that Mayfield will be throwing them the ball.

Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, and there was a lot of excitement in Northeast Ohio that he could take the Browns into an era of success they hadn’t enjoyed in decades.
Although there were times when he looked outstanding, he got the Browns to just one postseason appearance and one postseason victory in four years there.
His tenure there ended last offseason amidst rumors of a rift between him and the rest of the team, especially when a team official was quoted as saying the Browns would prefer an “adult” at QB.
Mayfield started the 2022 campaign with the Carolina Panthers, and he moved on to the Los Angeles Rams in November.
Although he led the Rams to a stirring comeback win in his first contest with them, he failed to impress in his four other games in LA
This could be his last chance to prove he can stick with an NFL team.
