We are now less than a week away from the official start of spring training, which means that a new MLB season is in bloom.

Still, even with the offseason almost behind us, there are some key free agents who have yet to sign, and may not sign until well into spring training.

Many of the key players who have yet to sign fall in the left-handed reliever category.

Pitchers such as Matt Moore, Zack Britton, Will Smith, Brad Hand, and Andrew Chafin have been available for quite some time.

MLB Network tweeted a graphic featuring each reliever’s stats from 2022 and posed a question of which team could use a veteran southpaw in their pen.

A team like the New York Mets can never be counted out of the sweepstakes for any key free agent.

That has become apparent this offseason with owner Steve Cohen signing players to some massive deals.

As the old saying goes, you can never have too much pitching, and there is plenty of pitching help available.

Moore is an interesting case, as he transitioned from being a starter to a reliever last season with the Texas Rangers.

He could potentially be used as a swingman and serve in both roles.

That type of pitcher could be of use to teams like the Boston Red Sox or St. Louis Cardinals, who could both use some extra pitching depth.

But Smith, Britton, and Hand can all be used in the closer’s role and could serve as some solid back-end relief options for teams in need of such a presence.

Because so many key pitchers are not yet signed, free agency could spill over into spring training.
