Although Sean Payton is now the head coach of the Denver Broncos, there were rumors that the Arizona Cardinals were seriously interested in hiring him.
However, there were also rumors that Payton didn’t take that job because he doesn’t like quarterback Kyler Murray.
But Payton set the record straight and said he has nothing against the Cardinals’ signal-caller.

He even said that his son is a big fan of Murray.
Ultimately, Payton said he chose the Broncos instead of Arizona because it was a “different fit,” and he said that his “instincts were pushing me in a direction with Denver.”
Has he chosen to take the helm of the Cardinals, he would’ve been presented with an interesting and challenging opportunity.
Murray tore his ACL late in the regular season, and head coach Kliff Kingsbury said he doesn’t think he will be ready when the 2023 campaign starts.
Murray’s greatest strength has been his quickness in the open field, which has allowed him to elude pressure and gain yardage by himself with his legs, and it remains to be seen how much of that talent he will still possess following his ACL injury.
The Cardinals are also expected to trade wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who is still a viable player but may be just starting to show some wear and tear at age 30.
It will be an uphill climb for them, as they play in a tough division that includes the mighty San Francisco 49ers, a Los Angeles Rams team that is looking to rebound after a poor title defense and a surprisingly solid Seattle Seahawks squad.
