A number of NFL teams have hired new head coaches lately, and there seems to be a trend across the league of squads preferring young head coaches to those who are more experienced.

But among all coaches, the Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay is not only one of the more accomplished ones, but also a very young one.

In fact, despite having six years in the books at the helm of the Rams, he is still the NFL’s youngest head coach.

When the Rams first hired McVay in January 2017, he was the youngest head coach in the modern era of the NFL.

He had previously spent three years as the Washington Redskins’ offensive coordinator under Mike Shanahan and Jay Gruden, and with the Rams’ recent move back to Southern California, they were hoping to improve on a very dismal first year back in the Southland.

McVay quickly charged up the team, helping it finish first in points scored in 2017 after it had finished last in that category just the year prior.

The team made the playoffs for the first time since 2004, and it was clear that it has gotten back on track after many dark years in St. Louis.

But after losing Super Bowl LIII to the New England Patriots, it was clear the Rams weren’t quite good enough, and before last season, they made a bold move by trading quarterback Jared Goff and draft capital for Matthew Stafford.

After a midseason trade that brought them veteran linebacker Von Miller, the Rams went on to win the Super Bowl over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Los Angeles had a very disappointing title defense this season, but with many of its key players set to return for 2023, perhaps it will be in the championship mix again next season.
