Robinson Cano has had a very good MLB career, with the sole exception of his two performance-enhancing drug suspensions.

He has a lifetime .301 batting average with 335 home runs and a myriad of individual awards and achievements.

He also won the 2009 World Series with the New York Yankees.

Having said that, he is 40 years old and was horrible in 2022.

It became so bad that three teams gave him the chance to earn at-bats for them last season, and the same three teams didn’t want him on their 40-man roster after getting a close look.

The New York Mets, the San Diego Padres, and the Atlanta Braves realized that it might be the end of the road for the veteran when it comes to MLB.

That doesn’t mean he can’t be a reserve infielder for the Dominican Republic team in the World Baseball Classic.

In fact, his bat seems to be doing just fine.

He got the chance for a bit of a revenge game against the Braves, going yard for the Dominican Republic in a tune-up game with an eye on the WBC.

Cano, the MVP of the 2013 WBC when the Dominicans won, will be a reserve infielder this time around.

He can backup first and second basis, so his playing time will probably be limited unless there is an emergency.

Still, he is still a respected figure in his country and remains capable of a big hit here and there.

Dominican Republic starts its WBC journey on Saturday against Venezuela.
