Red Sox Executive Comments On The State Of The Club

The Boston Red Sox are a team that is coming into the 2023 season with a ton of question marks.

After a surprise run to the ALCS in 2021, the team fell short of expectations in 2022, finishing with just 78 wins and in last place in the American League East.

To add insult to injury, Xander Bogaerts departed via free agency and Trevor Story underwent elbow surgery.

As such, the Red Sox have been forced to go out and add some pieces.

The team acquired Adalberto Mondesi in a trade with the Kansas City Royals to strengthen their depth at the shortstop position.

This afternoon, Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom commented on the state of the club and what their next steps may be.

Bloom stated that the Red Sox are happy with what they have, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to look for ways to improve.

In addition to Mondesi, Boston added Adam Duvall, Justin Turner, and Masataka Yoshida to boost their lineup, along with veteran pitchers Corey Kluber and Kenley Jansen.

Needless to say, there are plenty of solid pieces in place for the Red Sox, who could surprise some people if everything goes according to plan.

But Bloom doesn’t seem to think that the team is done adding pieces.

There are issues that will need to be addressed, such as the starting rotation and potentially the shortstop position, depending on how long Story is out.

At the very least, Bloom does appear to be happy with what has been accomplished this winter.
