When a player hits free agency in MLB, there are tons of reasons that might make them consider joining a specific team.
The franchise’s history, the current roster, prospects of spending and contending, the city and its attractions, the food, and even the stadium.
Yes, the stadium.
Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani will be a free agent after the season, and he should already be mulling his next destination.
One of the teams that should be in contention to sign him is the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox are a big-market organization with money to spend and the willingness to “shower” Ohtani with cash.
They have something that Ohtani likes: Fenway Park.
It’s not just the stadium per se: it’s the people and the atmosphere they create.
Everything was ready, on Monday, for Ohtani and people at Fenway to have a blast but rain ruined all plans and he ended up pitching just two innings.
“Shohei Ohtani on his latest Fenway Park experience: ‘It’s one of my favorite parks, so I always look forward to pitching here. But the conditions didn’t allow me to have fun fully. Other than that I always look forward to pitching here.’ It’s time. We have no choice,” Red Sox insider Tyler Milliken tweeted, with some Ohtani quotes.

The “we have no choice” part is a joke about the Red Sox building a dome just to please Ohtani and make him sign.
Outside of the joke, it’s clear that the 2021 AL MVP enjoys pitching in Boston and in Fenway Park, so the organization has that working in its favor.
Will Ohtani seriously consider Boston as his next long-term destination?
We will find out in a few months.
