The future of the Detroit Pistons’ outside game is apparently well covered with the presence of Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, who aim to ‘backcourt’ owner for many years. However, this full conviction also invites questions about the continuity of other players who share a position.
from the middle Detroit Free Press they anticipate the Pistons will not extend Killian Hayes’ contract this offseason. Instead, they will allow the point guard to become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024, thus leaving the market to decide the value of his next NBA contract.
The Pistons will thus keep the trick of being able to match any offer presented by another team. In turn, this uncertainty will push Hayes to complete a solid season that will serve to increase his market value.
“I still have to be consistent. That is the main thing for me,” said the player, seventh pick in the 2020 draft, at the end-of-season press conference. “Just being consistent every night, playing the same way, making sure my teammates are involved. And keep learning about the game. I am far from being a perfect player, I have a lot to learn, a lot to improve. That’s what excites me when I see the journey I’m going through, the one I’m on.”
In his third season as a professional, Hayes has played a total of 76 games, 56 of them as a starter, taking advantage of Cunningham’s injury. In them he averaged numbers of 10.3 points, 6.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 28.3 minutes, all of them career highs.
