Pirates manager comments on Andrew McCutchen trade rumors

The Pittsburgh Pirates entered the season as a team that could have a surprisingly good year.

But since then, that has faded and they’ve slipped to fourth in the NL Central.

That means they will most likely be sellers by the August 1 trading deadline.

Some of your veterans may be leaving as they look to build for the future.

One player Pirates manager Derek Shelton doesn’t want to walk away from is Andrew McCutchen.

According to MLB Network Radio, Shelton said: “Andrew McCutchen is fine where he is.”

McCutchen is a fan favorite in Pittsburgh and someone who wants to finish his career in the city.

He spent the first nine seasons of his career as a Pirate.

During that time he won a National League MVP award and made five All-Star teams.

After leaving Pittsburgh, he made a few different stops in the league before re-signing with the Pirates this offseason.

On the season he is hitting .278 with nine home runs, 25 RBIs and an .832 OPS.

McCutchen could prove valuable to a contending team, but Pittsburgh doesn’t seem to have any interest in trading him.

The Pirates legend is 36 years old and is playing on a one-year contract.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him retire after this season and end his career in Pittsburgh.

The Pirates will make a plethora of trades before the trade deadline.

But expecting to see McCutchen in one of those deals seems unlikely.
