Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins will miss the entire season with a left knee ACL tear.
The injury happened on an unfortunate play on Thursday, as Hoskins was running towards the outfield to chase a ball there.
An MRI showed the extent of the injury, which usually takes between six and eight months to heal.
Phillies president Dave Dombrowski spoke about Hoskins and how they plan to go forward.
“Dombrowksi says that Hoskins will get a second opinion but it’s clear there’s a tear. They say they expect him to be out for the season. Added that they ‘like Darick Hall a lot’ and feel that he’ll get the majority of playing time at first base,” Phillies insider Alex Coffey tweeted.

The second opinion appears to be just to verify the information they have already received, but Hoskins’ fate is pretty clear: he won’t be able to help the Phillies get to the World Series this year, like he did in 2022.
He represents a serious loss for the NL champions.
He was having a nice spring training, with a 1,300 OPS and four round-trippers.
Now, they are going to have to turn to Hall.
Hall has five homers and a 1.066 OPS in spring play, so he represents a nice alternative.
Still, he lacks Hoskins’ track record of proven performance, power, and on-base prowess.
He could wind up being better, but it hurts to lose such a talented performer.
Hoskins joins Bryce Harper, Ranger Suarez, Andrew Painter, and other stars who will be on the injured list when the play ball voice is heard.
