The Philadelphia Phillies have not had the start to the season that they hoped for.
Through 12 games, the Phillies have a record of 4-8, and injuries are a big reason why.
Losing Rhys Hoskins to a torn ACL in spring training was a big blow.
Then their backup first baseman Darick Hall tore a ligament in his thumb.
So the Phillies do not have anyone with experience to play first base.
One player that is hopeful to come back at some point in May is former MVP Bryce Harper.
He is the type of hitter that can turn the season around for the Phillies.
But, coming off of Tommy John surgery, the Phillies want to be cautious with how much he throws.
That is why they came up with a plan to put their superstar outfielder at first base.
According to Matt Gelb, via FOX Sports MLB, Harper is preparing to play first base upon his return.

Harper has never played first base in his career, and a lot more goes into it than just catching the ball.
But, even if he is a below-average first baseman, the Phillies will trade that for his elite hitting.
Just getting Harper back on the field will be a win for the Phillies.
If that means he has to play first base on occasion then so be it.
What Harper did in last year’s postseason was legendary, and the Phillies hope to get him more meaningful playoff at-bats this season.
