By now, it’s no secret that the St. Louis Cardinals, winners of 93 games last season and the defending NL Central champions, have not performed up to par to start this season.

They are 8-11 and sit in fourth place in the division, six games back of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.

However, despite their struggles, there is one player who has been nothing short of a revelation this season.

Nolan Gorman is off to a hot start, having hit five home runs this month, including a grand slam on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

On Twitter, Cardinals writer John Denton pointed out that despite the team’s struggles, Gorman is really swinging a hot bat and ranks among some of the best hitters in the league in several categories.

Gorman is currently tied with Bryan Reynolds, Jorge Soler, and Rowdy Tellez with five home runs.

That’s fifth in the National League.

He is fourth in OPS with a 1.052 mark, trailing only Luis Arraez, former Cardinal Patrick Wisdom, and Brandon Marsh.

Gorman has a .649 slugging percentage, which puts him behind only Wisdom and Marsh in the National League.

He also has the second-most RBI in the National League.

Gorman has driven in 18 runs and trails only Matt Olson, who has 20 RBI.

Needless to say, Gorman has been quite good to start the season for St. Louis and appears to be one of the missing pieces that the offense needed.

He also has come through in the clutch very frequently, and appears to be on his way to a breakout year.
