Despite narrowly losing in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had an excellent season, and he has established himself as their signal-caller for many years to come.

He will be an unrestricted free agent after the next season, and according to NFL insider Dov Kleiman, he could be in for a big payday that could approach $50 million a year.

It wasn’t that long ago that many had doubts about Hurts’ viability as an NFL signal-caller.

While in college at the University of Alabama, he led his team to the national championship game as a sophomore, but he played so poorly in the first half as he fell behind 13-0 that he was benched in favor of freshman Tua Tagovailoa.

When the Eagles took Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, he started out as their third-string QB, then quickly became Carson Wentz’s backup, and he even started four games that season.

Last year, his first as Philly’s full-time starter, he threw just 16 touchdown passes and nine interceptions, and fans continued to doubt whether he was the right man to lead the team moving forward.

This season, he completed 66.5 percent of his passes and notched 3,701 passing yards and 22 passing touchdowns, as well as 760 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

Indeed, running the ball himself is Hurts’ greatest strength, and he helped the Eagles finish fifth in rushing yards and first in rushing touchdowns this year.

With a mostly young cast on offense, they have a real shot at getting back to the Super Bowl at some point in the next few years.
