NFL Insider Reveals A Trade The Colts May Need To Make

The Indianapolis Colts could really use a quality starting quarterback after veteran Matt Ryan didn’t quite work out this past season.

At age 37, Ryan displayed all the wear and tear that had accumulated after 15 years in the NFL, and he was eventually benched late in the season after the Colts blew a gigantic lead against the Minnesota Vikings and lost.

The team has the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and many have said that Anthony Richardson of the University of Florida would be the best pick.

But he may not be available at No. 4, and NFL insider Field Yates says the Colts should consider trading up to No. 3 before another team does so.

The third pick is currently held by the Arizona Cardinals, who already have Kyler Murray under center, and perhaps the right package could persuade them to give it up.

As of now, the Colts’ other options at QB are Nick Foles, who started three games for them in 2022 and is likely also over the hill, and Sam Ehlinger, who is going into his third season and doesn’t look like a viable prospect.

In all likelihood, Bryce Young and CJ Stroud will not be available at No. 3 or No. 4, which makes Richardson the man Indianapolis may be zeroed in on.

His passing stats in 2022 weren’t very dazzling (2,549 passing yards and 17 touchdowns on a 53.8 percent completion rate), but his 654 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns show he can move the chains with his legs.

With Jonathan Taylor at running back and Michael Pittman Jr. at wide receiver, getting a good signal-caller in the draft could help the Colts become a potent offensive team very quickly.
