NFL Insider Gives Latest Update On Derek Carr’s Visit With Saints

Derek Carr is looking around for options after being benched by Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels late this season, and he reportedly visited with the New Orleans Saints.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Carr is still meeting with the Saints, and he is one step closer towards leaving the Raiders.

Carr had a down season in 2022, completing 60.8 percent of his passes, throwing for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while finishing with an 86.3 passer rating.

Some thought he would elevate his game and prove he was an elite quarterback with the arrival of virtuoso wide receiver Davante Adams, but instead his game declined.

McDaniels made the decision to bench Carr after a Week 16 blowout loss to the rebuilding Pittsburgh Steelers in which he threw three interceptions.

The Raiders, who were expected to be in the mix for Super Bowl contention, lost a number of big leads and close games, leading to a 6-11 finish.

New Orleans also had something of a disappointing year, as it went 7-10 and, like the Raiders, missed the playoffs.

They named Jameis Winston their QB1 when the season started, but he didn’t measure up, and head coach Dennis Allen quickly switched to veteran Andy Dalton for Week 4.

The Saints have running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Chris Olave, who was one of the NFL’s best rookies this season, and perhaps an upgrade at quarterback could get them into the playoffs next season, especially with how weak the NFC South is.

The retirement of Tom Brady should also help the Saints’ prospects moving forward, as they attempt to win their first division title since 2020, Drew Brees’ final season.
