Jalen Hurts’ play was one of the main factors behind the Philadelphia Eagles’ success last season.
The former Sooners star took a major leap forward, silencing his doubters and playing like a legit MVP candidate when healthy.
Even in the Super Bowl loss, Hurts was mostly perfect, putting up a whopping 35 points against the Kansas City Chiefs.
So, if something ain’t broken, why fix it?
At least, that’s how the Eagles organization seems to feel about their dual-threat quarterback.
Per NFL insider James Palmer, the Eagles are quite high on Hurts’ ability to scramble and feel as a runner, which is why they don’t want him to change and take a more conservative approach after signing his impending contract extension.
The #eagles feel Jalen Hurts has a great feel as a runner. when to slide, go out of bounds, or avoid the hit when necessary. Because of that and other factors, even after he gets 💰 💰💰 Philly wants him to continue to play his style of QB. My report on NFL NOW on @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/mbkzTbMSGq

That’s not very usual in today’s market, especially at the quarterback position.
Not only do the Eagles know that Hurts is going to demand top-dollar and are more than happy with meeting his demands, but they also want him to continue playing the way he knows how to rather than avoiding contact to protect his body.
NFL teams—and most major sports franchises—often view players as assets, commodities, and products, not as actual players.
Needless to say, Hurts will need to pay that confidence back by avoiding unnecessary risks and staying on the field as often as humanly possible.
But it’s definitely nice to see an organization trusting their star player as much as the Eagles trust Hurts, and that confidence could go a very long way for years to come.
