The Washington Commanders have been looking for a new offensive coordinator, and they have shown interest in both Greg Roman and Eric Bieniemy.

According to Ian Rapoport, it looks like Bieniemy will end up inking a deal to run Washington’s offense next season.

Bieniemy will come to the nation’s capital fresh off helping to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to their second Super Bowl championship in four years as their offensive coordinator.

In five seasons at the helm of their offense, they finished first in total yards three times and tops in points scored twice.

Of course, Bieniemy has quarterback Patrick Mahomes on his side, not to mention skill players such as tight end Travis Kelce and former Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill.

In Washington, he will face a different type of challenge.

The team appears to be going with Sam Howell, who was a rookie this season and played in only one contest, moving forward under center, but it does have a very solid Pro Bowl wide receiver in Terry McLaurin.

This season, the Commanders started 1-4, but just as the vultures were starting to circle over them, they won six out of their next seven games, giving them a real shot at a wild-card playoff spot.

But a three-game losing streak late in the season forced them to watch the postseason from home.

They ranked fourth in rushing attempts this season, and it will be interesting to see if Bieniemy emphasizes the passing game more, as the Chiefs run the ball less often than most teams.
