NFL Analyst Says Aaron Rodgers Trade Will Set Jets Back ‘5-6 Years’

Fans across the NFL are holding their breath as it appears all but certain that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be traded to the New York Jets.

The Jets will almost certainly have to turn over plenty of draft compensation to Green Bay in order to land Rodgers, and it remains to be seen exactly how many and what type of picks they would have to give up.

In addition, Rodgers has reportedly told the Jets he would like them to acquire certain players, including free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

It has caused former NFL player and current analyst Michael Robinson to warn that acquiring Rodgers could set New York back several years.

Robinson’s argument seems to be that the team would be giving up too many assets for possibly one or two years of Rodgers, which would be so much to mortgaging what looks like a bright future.

The Jets have the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year in wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner, respectively, as well as Pro Bowl defenders Quinnen Williams and CJ Mosley.

Rodgers is 39 years old, and his production dipped this past season, possibly due to wear and tear catching up with him.

Perhaps a change of scenery would help stimulate his play, especially now that the Jets have acquired former Packers widely Allen Lazard in the meantime.

But taking on Rodgers would certainly be a risk for the Jets, and it’s just a question of whether it would be a worthwhile risk.
