After benching and releasing Derek Carr, the Las Vegas Raiders have been in need of a quality starting quarterback, as it became clear late in the 2022 season that Jarrett Stidham, Carr’s replacement, wouldn’t cut it moving forward.
On Monday, they agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who had spent his last six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, on a three-year contract.
David Carr, the older brother of Derek Carr, really likes this move by Las Vegas, especially considering the terms of the contract.

Garoppolo’s new contract is for a total of $72.75 million, which, as David Carr pointed out, should give the Raiders some flexibility to address some of their other needs.
With Derek Carr joining the New Orleans Saints and Aaron Rodgers still talking to the New York Jets, Garoppolo may have been the best available QB currently on the market.
He led the 49ers to an appearance in Super Bowl LIV, where they blew a late lead and lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the NFC Championship Game the following year.
This past season, he lost his starting job to Trey Lance, only to resume it in Week 2 when Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury.
Unfortunately, Garoppolo injured his foot in Week 13 and was sidelined for the rest of the year.
In Las Vegas, he will be reunited with Josh McDaniels, who was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots when he started his career there as a backup to Tom Brady.
