Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts is one of MLB’s best outfielders, both defensively and offensively.
He has won six Gold Glove awards in the outfield after moving to right field permanently in 2016.
Few people, however, remember that he actually made his MLB debut with the Boston Red Sox as a second baseman.
He played the position for years before reaching the majors and is familiar with it.
Gavin Lux’s injury changed the entire infield landscape for the Dodgers.
They are now expected to roll with some combination of Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor at short.
Taylor and Miguel Vargas should handle second, but Vargas is currently recovering from an injury and Taylor might be needed at shortstop more often than not.
This creates a depth problem for the blues.
Manager Dave Roberts is apparently open to playing Betts as a second baseman on occasion.
He wrote his name at the keystone in the spring training lineup for Friday.

Perhaps Roberts is seeing him as more of an emergency option than anything, but still, he needs some reps at the position after playing there just seven times in 2022.
We are sure that if the team asked Betts to move to second base for the 2023 campaign, he would accept and see it as a challenge.
A Gold Glove at second base would look nice, too.
That likely won’t be the case, though, at least not at the moment.
For now, he is still expected to be the Dodgers’ right fielder when Opening Day rolls around.
