The Atlanta Braves made one of the best moves of the offseason by trading for Oakland A’s catcher Sean Murphy.

Not many people knew who Murphy was as a member of the A’s.

But, he is certainly making a name for himself this season in Atlanta.

Murphy has been the best catcher in baseball so far in the season.

Also, he is one of the top candidates for NL MVP.

Unlike many MLB stars, Murphy did not have a generic path to the pros.

According to Jon Morosi, Murphy was undrafted in the 2013 draft out of high school.

He then proceeded to walk on to the college baseball team at Wright State.

Yet after the long journey for Murphy, he has finally found a new home in Atlanta.

It seems like all the moves the Braves make pan out.

They have a very good front office that is not afraid to make trades and sign players before they break out.

Not only is Atlanta one of the best teams in baseball this year, but they should be good for years to come.

As for Murphy, maybe he just needed to be around other great players to break out.

He is hitting .282 this season with nine home runs and 28 RBI.

Also, he leads the National League in slugging percentage and OPS.

The Braves needed an elite offensive catcher and they found one in Murphy.

Not to mention he plays Gold-Glove-level defense behind the plate as well.

Atlanta is on the shortlist of World Series contenders, and Muphy is a major reason why.
