MLB Insider Reveals A Major Expansion Update

It’s no secret that there has been an expansion cooking in MLB for some time now.

The idea, and the intention, are there.

The conditions, on the other hand, may be tricky and complicated.

Still, Nashville, Charlotte, Las Vegas, and Montreal have been mentioned as possibilities to host an MLB franchise.

What about Salt Lake City?

There are people interested in making it happen.

NEWS: A Salt Lake City group led by former Utah Jazz owner Gail Miller plans to pursue an MLB expansion franchise, per @JeffPassan,” Front Office Sports tweeted.

It would be an interesting choice for an expansion, considering geographic traits somewhat similar to Denver.

Salt Lake City is at an altitude of 4,227 feet.

That would be higher than most major cities in the United States outside of Denver.

It could have a Coors Field-like effect.

It’s all still in the planning phase, though.

Besides, the league is expected to decide what will happen with the Oakland Athletics and the Tampa Bay Rays regarding their stadiums and, most importantly, their low attendance numbers.

Both the Rays and A’s are potential candidates for relocation.

The Rays are extremely competitive on the field, but the current state of the A’s franchise is sad, for the lack of a better word.

In any case, several groups and cities have shown enough interest in hosting an MLB franchise that it’s realistic to think that the league will probably have 32 teams within the next ten years.

Salt Lake City would be a fascinating location for an MLB team.

Will it happen?

Only time will tell.
