Coors Field is often known as a place where a lot of runs are scored.
Because of the high altitude in Denver, the ball carries.
However, it is not Coors Field where a lot of runs have been scored so far in the 2023 season, but rather, Fenway Park.
The Boston Red Sox began their 2023 season at home and have scored plenty of runs, but have also allowed quite a few as well.
On Twitter, Bob Nightengale of USA Today noted an interesting trend that is taking place in Boston right now, and the number of runs that are being scored per game.
Fenway Park has turned into old Coors Field:
Here are the combined runs per game at Fenway this season:Game 1: 19 runs in 9 innings
Game 2: 17 runs in 9 innings
Game 3: 14 runs in 8 1/2 innings
Game 4 so far tonight: 12 runs in 4 innings—Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) April 4, 2023
Nightengale went as far as to call Fenway Park “Old Coors Field.”
19 runs were scored in Thursday’s Opening Day game between the Sox and the Baltimore Orioles.
On Saturday, Boston won 9-8 on Adam Duvall’s walk-off home run.
That amounts to a total of 17 runs scored.
On Sunday, the Red Sox defeated the Orioles by a final score of 9-5, which amounts to a total of 14 runs.
On Monday, 12 runs had been scored through four innings between the Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Boston added a run in the bottom of the sixth, which brought the total up to 13 runs in six innings.
So naturally, Fenway Park will draw some Coors Field comparisons as a result of this recent trend.
But with the Green Monster out in left, pitchers often reap the benefits of Fenway Park.
That has not been the case through the Red Sox’s first four games, however.
