MLB Has A Special Broadcast Plan In Place This Year

For weeks, MLB fans were worried that they wouldn’t be able to watch games of some specific teams.

Diamond Sports, who controls and operates Bally Sports – a series of regional channels and networks that offer broadcasts of MLB games – could file for bankruptcy.

Its future looks bleak, to put it slightly, so the league has been forced to change plans on the go.

According to the New York Post, however, MLB is planning to broadcast games of a specific list of teams with no charge.

“MLB plans to broadcast games of roughly a half-dozen teams for free, but @nypost, as their RSN provider — Diamond Sports — prepares for bankruptcy. Teams reportedly include: Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians, San Diego Padres,” Front Office Sports tweeted.

For years, fans have complained that instead of making things easier for fans to watch games and MLB content, the league interferes, uses platforms that not every type of fan is used to, and doesn’t solve annoying blackout issues.

Now, however, the league seems to be preparing to take over the broadcasts of several teams’ games as their regional sports network providers move towards bankruptcy.

Front Office Sports explained that these teams affected “were costing Bally’s millions more than they were making in cable subscriptions and ad revenue.”

We will know more details as we move closer to the start of the season, but it does seem like these teams, plus a couple of others, will enjoy free streams.

Perhaps the league’s shifting rules to make games shorter and more entertaining can attract other networks and broadcast services in no time.

We will all have to wait to know more.
