Left-hander Tyler Anderson was one of many viable starting pitchers who hit the free agent market after the 2022 season.

The 33-year-old signed early in the offseason, joining the Los Angeles Angels on a three-year, $39 million deal.

He won 15 games in 2022 and posted an impressive ERA of 2.57 as he helped guide the Los Angeles Dodgers to their ninth NL West title in the last 10 years.

The postseason was no exception, as he delivered five scoreless innings against the San Diego Padres in Game 4 of the NLDS.

On MLB Tonight, analysts Lauren Gardner, Jake Peavy, and Bo Porter discussed Anderson’s success and what it will take for him to replicate that success in 2023.

Peavy got a chance to watch Anderson in Game 4 and discussed his dominant performance.

In that game, the left-hander struck out six Padres batters and allowed just two hits in his five scoreless innings.

Peavy praised Anderson for keeping his composure in such a big moment during Game 4.

He says that that is an important aspect of Anderson’s game and something that he looks for in pitchers.

Anderson’s pitch arsenal helped him tremendously in his outing against the Padres.

Peavy praised him for the use of his cutter and his ability to spot his pitches.

Anderson now slots into the Angels rotation behind two-way star and ace Shohei Ohtani.

With Ohtani only under contract for one more season, 2023 is a big year for the Angels.

Peavy says that if the Angels are going to contend this season, they’ll need another All-Star campaign out of Anderson.
