It was a successful offseason for the New York Mets.
After losing both Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt, the team responded by signing veteran starters Justin Verlander and Jose Quintana.
The Mets then added Kodai Senga on a five-year deal.
As we move closer to the start of the 2023 season, it’s clear that the Mets’ biggest strength is their starting rotation.
With Verlander and Max Scherzer at the top, the Mets rotation appears to be ready to weather the storm that is the ever-competitive National League East division.
Late on Tuesday, MLB Network analysts discussed the Mets and their rotation and how it could carry them in 2023.

Dan Plesac talked about the importance of having solid starting pitching, citing it as what is usually the backbone of every great team.
He then discussed the depth of the rotation, even beyond pitchers such as Verlander, Scherzer, Quintana, and Senga.
At the back end of the rotation, New York has veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco, and if anything goes wrong, they’ll also have lefty David Peterson and right-hander Tylor Megill.
Beyond their rotation, however, the team has perhaps the best closer in all of baseball in flamethrower Edwin Diaz, who notched 32 saves in 2022.
Plesac discussed the importance of having such a powerful arm at the back end of their bullpen and what it means for the Mets.
Anthony Recker talked about the importance of the Mets’ veteran starters staying healthy.
Scherzer and Verlander are both approaching 40 years of age, and their rotation depth should serve them well this season.
