The offseason has come and gone, and now it’s time to get set for the 2023 MLB season.
Several teams made some big splashes this winter in free agency and with trades.
Others were relatively quiet this winter.
Either way, the 2023 season is almost upon us.
Opening Day is just over a month away.
As with any MLB season, there could be a team or two that surprises people and emerges as a contender.
On a podcast, MLB insider Jon Heyman made a rather bold prediction, saying that the Chicago Cubs could be a team worth watching this season after making some key moves.
“I’m going to give the Cubs a little bit of love here.” @JonHeyman likes the moves Chicago made, and thinks they may surprise a little this MLB season 👀 @BetQLDaily Podcast: https://t.co/4QlViMTze7 pic.twitter.com/BPYM39Umac

Chicago’s biggest moves were the signings of Jameson Taillon, Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger, and Trey Mancini.
While the St. Louis Cardinals are the likely favorites in the National League Central, the Cubs have closed the gap slightly with a busy offseason, even after watching their longtime backstop Willson Contreras sign with the Cards.
But Heyman could be onto something here.
The Cubs should not be overlooked as they look to find a way to bounce back into postseason contention.
The team has finished below the .500 mark in each of the last two seasons and has not reached the postseason since 2020.
But with their key moves this winter, they could be a team that potentially surprises people and proves their doubts wrong.
They’ll have the Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers to deal with in the Central, but the division is wide open and could be theirs for the taking if things go according to plan.
