Despite a 99-win season that led them to their first American League East title since 2019, the New York Yankees were missing an important piece for a good chunk of the season.

DJ LeMahieu was out towards the end of the season recovering from a foot injury.

As a result, the Yankees were missing a big piece in their lineup during the postseason, which was obvious in their ALCS loss to the Houston Astros.

However, it appears that the slugger is healthy again and ready to contribute.

On MLB Network, former General Manager Steve Phillips discussed what a healthy LeMahieu could mean for the Bronx Bombers.

Phillips discussed how important it is for the Yankees to have LeMahieu healthy again and what it means for the depth in their infield.

The 34-year-old was not quite the same player while dealing with his foot injury.

He hit .261 during the regular season, but only managed to hit 12 home runs.

However, with him healthy, the Yankees are in a much better position as Phillips alluded to.

Phillips talked about LeMahieu’s versatility and how he can play three of the four infield positions.

When concerning the third base position, New York has some question marks given the recent struggles of Josh Donaldson.

LeMahieu could ultimately take the starting job at third base if Donaldson does not improve.

Finally, Phillips discussed the Yankees’ depth.

With players such as Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Anthony Volpe in the mix for their infield, having LeMahieu could give the Yankees an opportunity to trade from their depth and add a starting pitcher to replace Frankie Montas.
