Minnesota will give its ‘Big Ball’ another chance

The Timberwolves might have changed their minds. If a few days ago it was Eric Pincus from Bleacher Report who signaled that Minnesota was determined to seek the trade of Karl-Anthony Towns, is now Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic who stresses that the plan of the Minneapolis organization is to give a vote of confidence to the project that began in the 2022-23 campaign with the arrival of Rudy Gobert.

The information from the aforementioned journalist is based on the physical condition of both players. In the franchise they expected more when they shaped their Big Ball with Towns and Gobert, but in the same way they understand that injuries have weighed down the duo, which has not been able to show its full potential on the floor for now.

With such a context, the Wolves would be willing to give the couple a new opportunity. Although they admit that when they have shared the track there have been certain offensive problems, they also believe that these will be drastically reduced with the improvement in Towns’ health.

Management may not be wrong. Last year Towns was only able to play 29 games –some without being one hundred percent–, so we are talking about a sample that is too small to ruin the great bet they made so recently. If everyone is fit to play and the expected results are not achieved, there will always be time to go back.

A playoff team

That’s how it is. Despite not having Towns for more than half of the regular season, the Timberwolves ended up being a playoff team by finishing in eighth place in the Western Conference with 42-40 and therefore getting into the play-in. In such an instance they fell in first place with the Los Angeles Lakers, but later defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder. Already in the postseason, they faced the Denver Nuggets to fall 4-1 against what would later be the NBA champions.
