Team USA came out swinging on Monday night in their matchup against Team Canada.

After a tough 11-5 loss to Team Mexico on Sunday night, the team came prepared to right the ship.

And they did just that, putting up a nine spot in the bottom of the first inning against Canada, capped off by a three-run home run from Los Angeles Angels slugger and center fielder Mike Trout.

The Americans ultimately won the game by a final of 12-1, with the action coming to a close in the top of the seventh inning by virtue of the WBC’s mercy rule, which states that if a team is up by 10 or more runs by the time of the seventh inning, the game can end.

After the game, Trout talked with MLB Network’s Jon Morosi about Team USA’s big win.

Trout was asked about the importance of Monday’s win and said that the key for the Americans was bouncing back after Sunday’s loss to Mexico.

He also talked about some of the adjustments he made at the plate.

Trout says that he felt like he and his teammates were pressing a little bit on Sunday and that it was important for them to go back to square one and just be themselves in the batter’s box.

The future Hall-of-Famer was also asked about the atmosphere on Monday at Chase Field.

The veteran slugger said it was some of the most fun he had ever had while on a baseball field and said that he is enjoying hearing the fans chanting “USA.”
