The trade deadline is fast approaching.

Soon, contending ballclubs will be looking to put the finishing touches on their rosters before making a run at the postseason, while other teams will be looking to sell off their assets with an eye on the future.

The New York Mets are a team that may be looking for some starting pitching help.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets have had some discussions with the Washington Nationals about veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin.

SNY, the TV home of the Mets, confirmed Martino’s report of the team’s potential interest in Corbin on Twitter.

Martino notes that the discussions have been centered around “burdensome contracts.”

Corbin is a two-time All-Star.

However, he has not been the same since signing a six-year deal with the Nationals prior to the 2019 season.

He won 14 games and posted a 3.25 ERA that season, and even earned the win in the clinching Game 4 of the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Since then, however, Corbin has posted an ERA north of four in each of the following seasons.

He currently is 4-8 with a 4.89 ERA in his 15 starts with the Nationals this year.

It is unknown who the Mets would be willing to give the Nationals in exchange for Corbin should a deal come to fruition.

However, Corbin’s Nationals tenure has certainly been one to forget thus far.

Aside from the 2019 season, Corbin has struggled mightily.

The Mets are currently 34-40 and sit in fourth place in the NL East division, 14 games behind the Atlanta Braves.
